Installed wind turbine capacity in India reached 968 MWe in the 1997-98 financial year, according to the Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources. 70 MWe was installed during the preceding year.
Of the total, 707 MWe has been installed in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, and 167 MWe in the western state of Gujarat. The state of Andhra Pradesh houses a further 50 MWe.
