Turbine manufacturers Vestas have received an order for 49 units of the V80-2.0 MW wind turbine from South Korea for the 98 MW Gangwon Wind Park project located in the north-east of the country.

The order comprises delivery, supervision of installation and commissioning, remote control systems and a five-year service and maintenance agreement. Shipment of the turbines will begin in 2005 and commissioning is due take place in two phases between December 2005 and the second half of 2006.

Vestas has entered into a consortium with Unison Co to deliver the contract.

In a separate announcement, Vestas is also set to build a large R&D centre in Aarhus, Denmark and second technology centre in Asia the exact location of which has yet to be decided.

Vestas is expected to initiate the Aarhus construction later this year.
