The Mid-Atlantic Connector expansion project is designed to provide service on Williams’ Transco natural gas pipeline from an interconnection with East Tennessee Natural Gas in Rockingham county, North Carolina, to delivery points as far north as Maryland. Other supply points in the path of the project include interconnects with Columbia Gas Transmission, Dominion Transmission and Dominion Cove Point.
Phil Wright, president of natural gas pipeline business at Williams, said: “This project demonstrates how our Transco pipeline is well-positioned to serve its customers’ growing needs for clean-burning natural gas while providing access to a diverse mix of supply sources. It’s another example of Transco expansions that are timed and sized to meet the market demand.”
Subject to approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and other agencies, the proposed expansion will consist of approximately three miles of pipeline looping and upgrades to existing compressor facilities in Virginia. The capital cost of the project is estimated to be $55m.
The Transco pipeline is a 10,000-mile pipeline system which transports natural gas to markets throughout the northeastern and southeastern US. The current system capacity is approximately 8.6 billion cubic feet per day.
