Westinghouse Electric Company has signed a contract for delivery of control rods to two boiling water reactors at the Forsmark nuclear power plant in Sweden.
Westinghouse Electric Company has signed a contract for delivery of control rods to two boiling water reactors at the Forsmark nuclear power plant in Sweden.
The control rods, which will be Westinghouse’s latest CR 99+ design, will be manufactured at the company’s manufacturing facility in Västerås, Sweden.
Westinghouse says its CR 99+ design contains an increased amount of absorber material, providing additional control rod service lifetime. The company had delivered around 1000 control rods to the Forsmark nuclear plant, which is operated by Vattenfall.

Our innovative solutions help meet ever-increasing regulatory requirements and achieve customer operational performance standards," says Aziz Dag, Westinghouse vice president and managing director, Northern Europe. "Our belief is that this control rod design contract will serve as a good reference for future orders."
Forsmark 1&2 were designed and built by ASEA-ATOM, which was acquired by Westinghouse in 2000. Both units were first connected to the grid in 1980.
