The Ontario Province will determine the best baseload generation option for the ratepayers based on the cost estimation and the construction inputs provided by Westinghouse.
Westinghouse Americas president Joe Zwetolitz said the company is taking part in Ontario’s data gathering process.
"Should the Province select our AP1000 as the preferred option, we believe that Ontario’s infrastructure could become even more energy self-sufficient, creating local Canadian jobs during construction and opportunities for involving Canadian suppliers on this and future nuclear projects elsewhere in the world," Zwetolitz added.
OPG will need about 700 employees to operate the two-unit AP1000 nuclear plant once the construction work is completed.
Westinghouse has opened Westinghouse Electric Canada office in Toronto to serve its customers better, strengthen ties with suppliers, and to align better with the Canadian regulations for the growing business opportunities.
