Under the contact, WesDyne will qualify techniques and equipment to inspect the core shroud support at the Oskarshamn unit 3 nuclear power plant.
In particular, the firm will develop and qualify ultrasonic and eddy current techniques for 70mm thick Inconel 182 welds, as well as two new manipulators to inspect approximately 35m in five different weld segments.
Through the restricted core grid openings, one of the manipulators will be inserted into the inspection area of the reactor that measure only about 300-by-300mm.
Oskarshamn NPP inspection coordinator Ã…ke Jonsson said: "We are pleased to continue cooperation with Westinghouse and WesDyne on complex and fascinating development projects. In this case, they presented us with the best technical solution to our upcoming task."
Work under the contract will be carried out WesDyne Sweden, a Westinghouse’s nondestructive inspection branch located in Täby, Sweden.
OKG Aktiebolag is 54.5% owned by German power company E.On while Fortum holds the remaining 45.5% stake.
In June 2015, E.ON announced its plan to decommission two of the three nuclear reactors at the Oskarshamn power plant due to low profitability.
The firm intends to close the 473MW Oskarshamn-1 reactor between 2017 and 2019 and the 638MW Oskarshamn-2 reactor as soon as possible.
Separately, Westinghouse Electric is currently under contract to provide fuel for Oskarshamn Units 1, 2 and 3, annually, during the five-year period of 2016 to 2020.
