Being built on behalf PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), the new 184MW Arun power plant is expected to stabilize the grid, and also strengthen the Aceh Special District electricity system to help ensure a reliable electricity supply to consumers during peak loads.
The plant will be powered by a total of 19 Wartsila 34SG engines running on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Wartsila Power Plants South-East Asia & Australia regional director Sushil Purohit said the the Arun gas power plant up on completion will strengthen the Aceh electricity system and will also support PT PLN’s effort to bring reliable electricity to the consumers.
”This important project will further enhance awareness of the efficiency and flexibility of Wärtsilä’s power plant solutions in the Asian market,” Purohit added.
The plant is scheduled to enter full operation in March 2015.
Wartsila is also supplying 16 34SG engines under a separate contract for another PT PLN-owned 155 MW gas engine based peaking plant, which will be located in Bangkanai in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2014, the plant will provide electricity to the Kalimantan grid.
