Wartsila, a supplier of decentralized power plant solutions, has been awarded an engineering and equipment contract for the extension of the Aksa Samsun combined-cycle power plant in Samsun, Turkey.

The power plant will be extended to incorporate the latest addition to Wartsila’s gas engine portfolio, the Wartsila 18V50SG gas engine.

The scope of supply also includes the controls, automation and auxiliary equipment related to the fuel gas, charge air, cooling and exhaust gas systems.

The Aksa Samsun plant, owned by Aksa Enerji, currently operates using seven Wartsila 18V46 engines running on heavy fuel oil, six of which will be converted to Wartsila 18V46GD engines for gas-fired operation.

When the Wartsila 18V50SG engine is commissioned in 2011, the power plant will have a total generating capacity of approximately 130MW in combined-cycle mode, which will be fed to the national grid.
