TrustPower's proposed US$165M Wairau river hydro electricity scheme in New Zealand has attracted 1442 submissions.
Of the submissions, 60% oppose the scheme while 40% support the proposed development. The submissions in support of the scheme had been received from two of the country’s other electricity generators as well as national grid operator TransPower.
The hearings on the project are likely to go ahead in April 2006.
