The project’s offshore substation will be linked with Dong Energy’s onshore substation through a 220kV export cable.
VolkerInfra will install the underground onshore cable circuit from the landing point, situated between Rhyl and Prestatyn in Denbighshire, Wales.
The underground onshore cables will run for about 10km to a substation and then be connected to National Grid’s 400kV Bodelwyddan facility, south of the St Asaph Business Park.
VolkerInfra will carry out the work by utilizing open cut trenching and horizontal directional drilling.
Dong Energy senior director for Burbo Bank Extension Klaus Skoust Moller said:"Burbo Bank Extension is an exciting project which will provide power to around 180,000 UK households, and we are delighted to appoint VolkerInfra to install the onshore underground cables for this wind farm.
"VolkerInfra has specialist expertise in this area, and is based near to the project in Preston."
The Burbo Bank Extension project will feature 32 MHI Vestas Offshore Wind 8MW turbines.
The extension facility, which is anticipated to be commissioned in 2017, will be located next to the existing 90MW Burbo Bank wind farm sited on the Burbo Flats in Liverpool.
The extension covers 40km² area and will sit to the west of the operational facility in Liverpool Bay, about 7km north of the North Wirral coast.
