Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation has won a US$29.7M contract to equip the Peruvian El Platanal hydro power project.

The firm’s São Paulo location will supply two vertical Pelton turbines, each with an output of 110MW and operating with a net head of over 600m. Generators (120MVA output), automation system, governors and excitation will also be supplied by Voith Siemens Hydro. Siemens, as a partner in this project, will supply electrical equipment and mechanical auxiliary systems.

El Platanal, operated by Peru’s Cementos Lima, is located in the Peruvian Andean foothills and is fed by the Cañete river. Besides generating energy, the plant will be used for the irrigation of 27,000ha of uncultivated land in Concón-Topará between Cañete and Chincha Alta on the country’s south coast.

Commissioning is scheduled for May 2008.
