Meridian Way is being developed and will be constructed, owned and operated by Horizon Wind Energy, a wind project developer based in Houston. Horizon is a fully owned subsidiary of Energias de Portugal, a Portuguese utility and one of the world’s largest generators of electricity from renewable energy sources.

By the end of 2007, Horizon will have developed more than 2,000MW and will be operating wind power plants with a total installed capacity of over 1,300MW. The company is currently developing a portfolio of more than 9,000MW in over a dozen states.

Antonio da Costa, CEO of Horizon Wind Energy, said: We are excited about the purchase of the V90-3.0MW turbines for the Meridian Way Wind Farm and look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Vestas for future wind farm development.

The order comprises of the supply and commissioning of the turbines, and a five-year service and maintenance agreement. Delivery of the 67 wind turbines will begin in mid-year 2008, and commissioning is expected to be completed in 2008.
