According to the company, the order comprises the supply, transportation, installation, commissioning of the wind turbines, a VestasOnline business supervisory control and data acquisition system as well as a three-year service and maintenance agreement. Delivery of the turbines is scheduled for the second half of 2009, and commissioning is expected to be completed in March 2010.
The order has been placed by IDEI, which is owned by the Iktinos Group, which specializes in the marble business. The company expects to reach a portfolio of 150MW to 200MW during the next five years, said the company.
With a total estimated annual power production capacity of 57GWh, the wind power plants are expected save the environment from more than 44,000 tons of CO2 emissions. Furthermore, the wind power plants will cover the yearly electricity consumption of 11,400 households.
Javier Diez, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Vestas Mediterranean, said: “We are satisfied to have been selected as the supplier of IDEI’s first wind project in Greece, and also we are looking forward to a long-lasting collaboration between the two companies.”
Started to manufacture wind turbines in 1979, Vestas has onshore and offshore wind turbine models ranging from 850 kW to 3,0 MW. The company started to work on wind energy in 1987 and its four technology areas are design and production of blades, control systems, nacelles and towers.
