Vestas has won an order from Element Power to supply 28 units of V100-1.8MW turbine for the first phase of the 99MW Macho Springs wind energy project in Luna County, New Mexico.

The contract includes delivery and commissioning of the turbines along with a 10-year turbine service and maintenance agreement.

Delivery of the turbines is scheduled for early 2011 and commissioning is expected in mid-2011.

Element Power has an option to purchase an additional 27 units of the V100-1.8MW turbine for the second phase of the project, which is targeted to proceed as early as next year.

Vestas Americas president Martha Wyrsch said that the V100-1.8MW turbine is an ideal turbine for low- and medium-wind speeds and will provide clean energy for thousands of homes for many years.
