The order comprises a full engineering, procurement and construction contract, a 12-year service agreement and a VestasOnline Business SCADA solution for each wind farm.
The first turbines are expected on site at the end of this year and the whole project is expected to be fully installed by the third quarter of 2011.
The order has been placed by Cabeolica, a public private partnership owned by the Government of Cape Verde, the government-owned utility Electra, infrastructure development company InfraCo, Africa Finance Corp, and Finish finance company Finnfund.
Vestas deputy general manager in Portugal Mario Gaviria said that this project, which will cover approximately 20-25% of Cape Verde’s energy demand, clearly proves the high level of wind energy penetration in the country, bringing Cape Verde into the spotlight in the whole African continent.
The Cabeolica wind power plant will generate approximately 120,000MWh of electricity saving the environment from almost 46,000 tons of CO2 on an annual basis, Vestas said.
