Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has received an order from Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), a community owned electric utility, to supply 24 units of V90-3.0MW and 31 units of V90-1.8MW turbines for the Solano-3 wind project near Rio Vista, California.

The contract includes delivery and commissioning of the turbines along with up to a 15-year service and maintenance agreement.

Delivery of the turbines is scheduled for the second half of 2011, and Vestas’ manufacturing operations in Colorado will produce the main components for this order.

All blades for this project will be produced at the company’s blade factory in Windsor, all tower sections will be manufactured at its factory in Pueblo, the nacelles for the V90-1.8MW turbines will be assembled at its Brighton factory, and the V90-3.0MW nacelles will be assembled in Denmark.

Previously, Vestas supplied 23 units of V47-660kW wind turbines for SMUD’s Solano-1 project in 2005 and 29 units of V90-3.0MW turbines for its Solano-2 project in 2007.
