Vestas Wind Systems has secured a contract from Element Power, a renewable energy company, to supply 28 V100-1.8MW wind turbines totaling 50.4MW for the first phase of the 99MW Macho Springs wind energy project.

In addition, Vestas will be responsible for the delivery and commissioning of the turbines along with a 10-year service and maintenance agreement for the wind energy project.

The company is planning to deliver the wind turbines for the project located in Luna County, New Mexico in early 2011 with commissioning expected to take place in mid-2011.

Vestas Wind Systems anticipates selling an additional 27 V100-1.8MW wind turbines to Element Power for the second phase of the project, which is targeted to proceed as early as next year.

This order marks Vestas’ 14th North American deal in 2010, totaling 1,784MW among four turbine types, with Vestas securing order for V100-1.8MW turbines from five customers in the last six months for projects in the US and Canada.
