Venomix, Inc. (Venomix) has appointed John C. Sorenson as director of the company. Previously, Sorenson was president of Syngenta Biotechnology, Inc. (Syngenta Biotechnology) and has retired. Prior to that, he was president of Syngenta Seeds, Inc. (Syngenta Seeds). As president of Syngenta Seeds, he headed the acquisition of three regional seed companies.

John will be a strong addition to the Venomix Board of Directors, said John L. McIntyre, president and chief executive officer of Venomix. With a background in both research and development and management he is ideally suited to help us navigate the difficult path from concept to product. John’s experience in the agricultural seed and biotech industry is a strong plus for us as we continue to develop our spider venom peptides as commercial insecticides.

As president of Syngenta Biotechnology, Sorenson was responsible for the phaseout of the company’s medical business and refocused the company on biofuels and crop biotechnology. Earlier to joining Syngenta, Sorenson was president of Rogers Seed Company. Sorenson’s experience also consists of plant biotechnology research and development with Asgrow, an Upjohn company. Before moving to the private sector, Sorenson was a tenured associate professor at North Carolina State University. He received his doctorate in biology from the University of South Carolina.
