The Lernbo units were originally installed in 1912 and 1944. The new machines, scheduled to be in operation by September 2009, will increase annual production at the plant to 28GWh from 23GWh. Reservoir levels and discharge will remain the same as stipulated by the old permit.

Ludvika hydroelectric plant, located 10km upstream of Lernbo, is currently being refurbished with commencement of commercial operation expected in September 2007. On completion, production at the plant will increase to 13GWh from 10GWh.
