Vattenfall said that as it has received valid acceptances of the offer, the company intends to exercise its rights to acquire compulsorily the remaining shares in Eclipse on the same terms as the offer.

This move is expected to enable Vattenfall to expand its presence in the UK market and to take be active in the UK’s third licensing round for offshore wind development.

Eclipse is currently developing six wind projects in the UK with the potential to produce over 200MW of renewable electricity, claims the company. The acquisition is expected to be a logical step forward in Vattenfall’s plans for further wind expansion and makes use of its wind technology competence.

Lars Josefsson, CEO of the Vattenfall Group, said: “This deal provides an opportunity to expand our business in the UK by leveraging our experience in wind power.”

Vattenfall is a power company that owns Kentish Flats, a wind farm in the Thames Estuary off Whitstable and recently acquired wind power companies AMEC Wind Energy Ltd and Eclipse Energy UK plc in Great Britain, claims the company. It also owns Lillgrund off the south coast of Sweden and Horns Rev in the Danish North Sea.
