The two-year agreement will initially cover a potential supply of 40MW to 50MW hydro power with Guarantee of Origin certificates. Vattenfall will deliver the energy from the hydropower facility on the Luleå river.
Hydro66’s selection of Vattenfall as a supplier was based on a 100% renewable energy supply, reliable power grids, and natural air cooling from the cold climate as well as a competitive and stable price offering.
Hydro66 business development director Paul Morrison said: "Establishing our first green data center in Boden means we can offer at least 50 percent annual cost savings to our customers along with an environmentally friendly solution and enhanced flexibility.
"Vattenfall has met all our requirements and being the biggest energy business in Sweden their network, expertize in the area and production and grid possibilities made the supplier choice very easy for us."
Vattenfall business sales energy intensive clients sales manager Matts Wesslén said: "We are very happy to welcome Hydro66 as a new customer and to announce another strong data center supply partnership, which is an important growth area for Vattenfall in the Nordic region."
Vattenfall also delivers hydropower to one of Facebook’s data center in Sweden.
