Vanguard Energy, a company engaged in the design and installation of solar electric systems, has been awarded a contract by the Somerset County Improvement Authority for 7.6MW solar power systems at 31 locations throughout Somerset County, New Jersey.

The company will build, own, operate and maintain the solar photovoltaic systems for 15 years, selling the renewable electricity to the county at discounted rates.

Vanguard CEO Jim LaFleur said that this private-public partnership in renewable energy is a win-win because it will save money for taxpayers, support the local economy and benefit the environment.

The solar systems are expected to save taxpayers $18.35m over the term of the 15-year power purchase agreement.
