VA Tech Hydro has won an order from Verbund Austria Hydro for the design, delivery and installation of the steel structure, including corrosion protection, for the penstock lining and manifold of the Kaprun hydro plant. The order is worth around US$12M.

The penstock was originally installed during and after World War Two. By the end of 2003, the penstock, the tunnel lining and the manifold will be removed.

VA says that the new tunnel lining and manifold will meet the highest technological standards, both in terms of materials used and production methods.

The pipes produced on site will measure 3m in diameter.
