The acquisition will expand the integrated water treatment equipment offerings of U.S. Water and will also increase its customers in municipal and industrial sectors.

Established in 1956, Tonka Water provides water treatment services across North America, through its 2,300 installed systems in 49 states and four Canadian provinces.

ALLETE chairman, president and CEO Alan Hodnik said: "This strategic acquisition, like the earlier additions of Water & Energy Systems Technologies and A and W Technologies, expands U.S. Water's geographic and customer markets, its equipment portfolio and its field service offerings.

"ALLETE continues to execute its strategy of supporting U.S. Water’s growth both organically and through tuck-in acquisitions as the company expands in the U.S. and Canada. Societal expectations, regulation and resource scarcity increasingly require sustainable solutions, and ALLETE is well-positioned in the emerging energy-water nexus."

U.S. Water provides integrated water solutions to over 4,800 industrial customers and few Fortune 500 companies.

It offers integrated water solutions for industry by combining chemicals, equipment, engineering and service to optimize system performance, and reduce water and energy use.

Headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota, ALLETE is the parent company of electric utilities Minnesota Power and Superior Water and Light and Power of Wisconsin.

The company also owns ALLETE Clean Energy in Duluth, and BNI Energy in Bismarck, North Dakota. It holds an 8% stake in the American Transmission.
