As part of the new installation, the company will save the city about 40% in energy costs once complete and will eliminate the need for continual street lamp maintenance over the next decade.

USLT will start installation of 1,000 of its proprietary Cobra 100 Series Induction Streetlights this month.

USLT’s 70W Cobra 100 Series Induction Streetlight will replace Tempe’s outdated 125W high pressure sodium and metal halide systems to provide better, more efficient light output.

USLT operations vice president Alexander Ham said Tempe ruled out LED for its high equipment cost and performance volatility in the temperature extremes of the southern Arizona environment.
