The lawsuit has been filed to recover losses resulting from the spill as the US government believes BP to be responsible for the environmental disaster, BBC reported.
Apart from BP, the lawsuit filed in US District Court in New Orleans seeks damages from Anadarko Exploration & Production, Anadarko Petroleum, MOEX Offshore 2007, Triton Asset Leasing, Transocean Holdings, Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling, Transocean Deepwater and insurer QBE Underwriting Ltd/Lloyd’s Syndicate 1036.
The allegations include failure to take required precautions to keep the Macondo well under control prior to explosion and to use the best available and safest drilling technology to monitor the well’s conditions.
The charges also include allegations on failure to maintain constant surveillance, to utilize and maintain equipment and materials for safety and protection of personnel, property, natural resources and the environment.
The news agency said that eleven workers on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig were killed by the explosion, and hundreds of miles of coast were polluted before the leaking well was closed off in July.
