Unit 2 of the Fangchenggang NPP in Guangxi province, near the border with Vietnam, began commercial operation on 2 November, China General Nuclear (CGN) announced. The unit started supplying electricity to the grid on 15 July.

Units 1 and 2 are both Chinese designed CPR-1000s; units 3 and 4 will have Hualong One reactors, and units 5 and 6 Westinghouse-designed AP1000s.
Construction of the first two units at the Fangchenggang plant began in July and December 2010, respectively. Unit 1 was connected to the grid last October and entered commercial operation on 1 January. Construction of Fangchenggang 3 began in December 2015, and construction of unit 4 is scheduled to begin this year, for operation in 2019 and 2020. According to CGN, units 1 and 2 will supply some 15TWh of power a year to the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, avoiding the use of 4.82m tonnes of coal and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by almost 12m tonnes.
