Both the reactor designs are capable of being shown to be acceptable in the UK, subject to satisfactory progress being made on the not insignificant technical issues the country has raised, Bloomberg reported.
The reactor designs are being assessed by health and environment regulators of the UK whereas utilities including Electricite de France, E.ON and RWE are considering to build nuclear power plants in the UK.
UK energy secretary Chris Huhne said that the country has approved ten sites for nuclear development this year and the first station will be operating by 2018.
According to the World Nuclear Association, about a fifth of the electricity production in the UK comes from nuclear power generation.
Additional safety work may be carried out after the assessment is completed in June.
