Spanish energy developer Gestamp has selected Trina Solar for the supply of 30MW photovoltaic modules for two projects in South Africa.

The projects will be located in the Northern Cape Province – a 20MW solar farm in the town of Prieska and a 10MW facility at De Aar.

Gestamp Solar CEO Jorge Barredo remarked that Trina Solar was selected because of the efficiency and performance of its turbines

"Gestamp Solar has been working on the development of projects with Trina Solar since the early days of the European photovoltaic industry because, as well as the excellent quality of their products, they have always been reliable suppliers," added Barredo.

Trina Solar will deploy its multicrystalline PC05 series modules at the two sites; the modules offer 15% efficiency, can generate up to 245W power and are capable of performing even during low light conditions.

Trina Solar chairman and CEO Jifan Gao said, "It is a milestone for the company, as it is our first major project in South Africa and will enable us to strengthen our presence in this market, where the solar sector is booming."
