Located 52km off the German coast, the wind farm can supply eco-electricity to about 200,000 households, while contributing to the CO2 emissions reduction.
Covering an area of 56 km², the 200MW wind farm is expected to provide an important contribution to climate protection as well as for the development of advanced wind energy generation on the open sea.
Areva president and CEO Luc Oursel said that the group has installed, till date, a base capacity exceeding 230MW, of which 30MW have been operating at the alpha ventus park in the North Sea since 2009.
"When the 80 turbines of the Global Tech I project will be installed in the North Sea, one third of the offshore installed capacity in Germany will be AREVA’s technology," Oursel added.
Areva and its partners were awarded contracts in May 2014 for two 500MW offshore wind farms in France, Le Treport and the Yeu-Noirmoutier islands.
