The building up of the plant in Higashidori village, Aomori Prefecture, has commenced with the Japanese utility TEPCO planning to start the commercial operation in March 2017, Reuters reported.
Toshiba will be responsible for the steam turbine and generator at the advanced boiling-water reactor plant, which will generate 1.385 million kilowatts while Hitachi will handle the reactor.
Toshiba and GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy have formed a consortium and signed an engineering deal with TEPCO.
The news agency said that the design work has begun and TEPCO is anticipated to officially order the reactor, steam turbine and power generator as soon as the spring.
