Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation (TAES) has received Notice to Proceed from the US Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation, Upper Colorado Regional Office, for generator rewinds and excitation system replacements at the Blue Mesa, Morrow Point and Crystal hydroelectric power plants.

Toshiba will design, manufacture, install and commission new generator stators and windings. Montreal-based Reivax North America Inc. will design, manufacture and commission the new excitation systems, RTX Power, which will also be installed by TAES.

“This award is the result of significant time and effort on the part of the project team to build a strong relationship with the customer and to understand and meet the government’s expectations,” said TAES President and CEO Ali Azad. “It is an important win for our business, and demonstrates our commitment to the U.S. hydro market and, more importantly, enhancing the U.S. carbon-free and renewable power generation portfolio,” he added.

Delivery of the excitation system for the Crystal power plant is planned for January 2017, followed by the two for Morrow Point in September 2017. The two for Blue Mesa will be delivered separately, one in September 2018 and the other in September 2019; that is also the planned timeframe for the Blue Mesa generator rehabilitation.
