China Three Gorges Project Corporation has been awarded a prize in IT innovation for its electronic production management information system (ePMS).
The operator of the Three Gorges hydro plant was named winner in the enterprise resource planning (ERP) category of the MIS Innovation Awards, an event organised by MIS Asia magazine.
The project’s ePMS was developed in collaboration with Industrial and Financial Systems (IFS) over a period of 20 months and, since last December, has been responsible for a number of functions including equipment maintenance, inventory, plant operation, safety, finance and business performance.
The technology was primarily developed in order to minimise overheads and disruptions to operation, explained Jin Heping of the China Three Gorges Project Corporation.
Jin said: ‘the web-based system we have today allows all our front and back end employees to have a common view of critical business data in real time and has enabled us to improve our work quality and business processes to a large extent.’
