Telvent GIT, S.A. (Telvent), a Spain based information technology (IT) company, has received two new contracts from Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX). The first contract focuses on upgrading the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system that provides real-time control of the multi-product pipeline network in the Valley of Mexico. The second contract focuses on maintenance support of Pemex Gas & Basic Petrochemicals’ SCADA system.

The upgrade of the control system will vastly increase security levels, a highly significant aspect of the PEMEX operations. It will also enhance environmental protection by mitigating the potential risks of hydrocarbon leaks that could affect the nearby population and ecology. In addition, the SCADA project will positively impact the reliability and efficiency of transporting and distributing the various hydrocarbon products throughout the pipeline network. These benefits will be realized over the system’s useful lifespan, also increased by the upgrade.

The project constitutes an essential part of PEMEX’s objective to increase efficiency, by integrating the control of all of its hydrocarbon transportation and distribution installations with a single, real-time SCADA system. To achieve this, Telvent will update the present control system, in operation since 1995, to the latest-technology OASyS DNA 7.5 version. The new system will allow the company to manage, monitor and control the multi-product pipeline located in the Valley of Mexico metropolitan area with a high degree of security and reliability.

Similarly, Pemex Gas and Basic Petrochemicals, a subsidiary of the Mexican oil giant, signed a two-year renewal of its maintenance contract with Telvent for the SCADA system that controls the 12,400-kilometer national network of natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas pipelines. This system, based on Telvent’s OASyS technology, began full operation in 2000. Since then, the system has provided continuous, real-time monitoring of this network, successfully operating 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, to maintain infrastructure security and environmental protection.

These project awards solidify Telvent’s position of technological leadership for hydrocarbon control and bolster its alliance with PEMEX. Operating since 1990, Telvent has since executed projects involving the development of control, information and management systems in diverse Mexican sectors. Telvent is particularly dominant in the oil and gas industry, having led projects in the areas of operation, production, transportation and distribution of hydrocarbon products.

PEMEX is a Mexico-based state-owned energy corporation.
