The cost of completing the first stage of the Tehri hydro power project has been revised by economists in the Indian government.

The 4 x 250MW stage I project and essential work at the Tehri pumped storage plant are to cost US$1.46B, according to the Indian Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. The new figure includes interest incurred during the construction phase as well as financing charges of US$124M.

The loan for the power component of the project will be around US$602M. It is to be partly raised by the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation, which will contribute US$166M and the Power Finance Corporation with US$267M.
