France-based Technip has been awarded an engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning and start-up contract of $400m by the Khafji Joint Operations for the Khafji crude related offshore projects in the Neutral Zone between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

The company plans to install two integrated wellhead jackets, two power distribution platforms, a main composite submarine cable as well as a number of infield cables and a new living quarters platform and control room.

Technip’s operating center in Abu Dhabi will perform the overall project management, including the procurement as well as supervision of the fabrication/installation.

The fabrication, transportation and installation activities will be subcontracted to China Offshore Oil Engineering Corporation.

The project has started in the third quarter of 2010, with 36 months of work scheduled.

Khafji Joint Operations is a joint venture between Aramco Gulf Operations and Kuwait Gulf Oil Company.

Technip provides project management, engineering and construction services for the oil and gas industry.
