The hydropower projects with an aggregate capacity of 400MW will be located in the US state of Georgia. Tata Power and Clean Energy will assume 40% ownership each in the joint venture.
Further, the energy from the projects will be sold to Turkey, according to the company’s statement.
Tata Power managing director Anil Sardana said the company is pleased with its expansion in the international market through this partnership.
"This relationship with Clean Energy and IFC InfraVentures puts us on a strong footing to take advantage of the considerable potential of this market," added Sardana.
Meanwhile, the development of these projects is planned in three phases. First phase involves the construction of 185MW, scheduled to be completed by mid 2016.
Tata Power, in alliance with Norway-based SN Power, has also secured the Dugar hydroelectric project in Chenab Valley in Himachal Pradesh, India.
