As per the present situation, the recycling rates in the county have reached nearly 50%, which has saved £3m in landfill tax, bbc.co.uk reported.
Cabinet spokesman for the environment Dr Lynne Hack was quoted by the news agency as saying that sending rubbish to landfill was becoming increasingly expensive every year and the Defra figures suggests that the waste sent to landfill had declined by 26% in Surrey.
As per the government report, waste from the county sent to landfill decreased by just under 75,000 tonnes to 211,500 tonnes in the previous financial year.
The report said that tax on waste disposed of in landfill sites increased in April from £40 to £48 per tonne, and will go up to £80 a tonne by 2014.
