SunEdison, a solar energy services provider and a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials, has signed a contract with CPS Energy to deploy utility scale solar in Texas.

SunEdison will build, own, and operate three solar generation facilities within the CPS Energy services territory totaling 30MW (AC).

The company said that construction is expected to start in 2011.

The SunEdison facilities will help CPS Energy achieve a renewable energy target of 20% of total generation capacity.

CPS Energy chief sustainability officer Cris Eugster said that apart from helping the company to meet its goal to provide 100MW of solar generation by 2020, it is also looking to SunEdison to be a key partner in transforming San Antonio into a national hub for solar energy.

SunEdison president Carlos Domenech said that the company is committed to the growing Texas solar energy market.

"We look forward to expanding our utility scale presence in the state in 2011," Domenech said.
