Canada-based Suncor Energy has completed the maintenance work on one of its two oil sands upgraders at its oil sands operations near Fort McMurray, Alberta, and the unit has now returned to normal operations.

The maintenance work began in early September, and it is part of the normal course of operations at the company’s oil sands facilities and scheduled to provide both preventative maintenance and capital replacement to improve operational efficiency and environmental performance.

The maintenance is expected to support safe operation of upgrading assets as Suncor works to achieve its average oil sands production targets of 280,000bpd in 2010.

Suncor’s operations include oil sands development and upgrading, conventional and offshore oil and gas production, petroleum refining, and product marketing under the Petro-Canada brand.
