August 1st, Nexans’ manufactured submarine HVDC (high voltage direct current) cable to be installed as part of the NordLink project, was successfully pulled onshore from the laying vessel C/S Nexans Skagerrak in Vollesfjorden, Norway.
First ever power interconnector between Norway and Germany is Nexans’ largest subsea power cable contract to date in terms of length and value. Nexans will design, manufacture and install 525 kV cable systems; with a total length of more than 700 km. Contract value for Nexans is approximately 500 m Euros. The project is due for completion in 2019.
During the next ten days, a total of 124 km of subsea cables will be laid from Norway towards the Danish sector of the North Sea. The cables will be laid by one of the worlds largest purpose-built cable laying vessels, the C/S Nexans Skagerrak, and protected on the seabed by trenching with dual 1 Megawatt Nexans Capjet systems onboard the offshore construction vessel Polar King.
The 1400 MW NordLink project, a collaboration between Statnett, TenneT and the German promotional bank KfW, will connect the Norwegian and German electricity markets to exchange green energy.
