Alstom has forged a strategic alliance with Russian power engineering company Energomachinostroitelny Alliance (EM Alliance) aimed at has strengthening its operations in Russia and the CIS countries.

Under the deal, the companies will share technology and know-how as well as marketing/business development, bidding and contract execution for thermal power plant projects in Russia and the CIS. The deal is seen as the first step in negotiations for several business co-operation agreements including an already concluded Memorandum of Understanding on Circulating Fluidised Bed (CFB) boilers.

EM Alliance is based at Podolsk in the Moscow region and is the management company of JSC Machine-Building Plant ZIO-Podolsk, JSC Engineering Company ZIOMAR and JSC TKZ Krasny Kotelshchik, three major Russian companies in the design and manufacture of thermal power plants.
