Société Tunisienne de l'Electricité et du Gaz (STEG) has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) and Sumitomo for the construction of a 450 MW gas-fired combined cycle power plant.

The plant will be built in Rades in Ben Arous Governorate at a cost of $341 million. The Japanese Official Development Assistant (ODA) is providing finance for the project.

The new power plant will account for ten per cent of Tunisia’s total generating capacity and will start operating in simple cycle mode in May 2019. MHPS will provide a M701F gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator and steam turbine, as well as dispatch technical advisors and supervisors to support during the installation and commissioning periods.

Mitsubishi Electric will provide the plant’s generators.
