StatoilHydro noted that compression can be the future solution for boosting production at completed subsea gas wells.

The Karsto laboratory (K-Lab) is reportedly well suited to carry out full-scale testing and qualifying of subsea compressors in realistic conditions. More than NOK250 million has been invested to upgrade the lab’s subsea compression testing facilities.

Rolv Herfjord, StatoilHydro-Asgard’s minimum flow project manager, said: This is a unique technology testing endeavor crucial for assessing subsea compression as a possible solution for offshore fields like Asgard and Mikkel. If the testing is successful, we can assess using subsea installations instead of offshore platforms.
