Norwegian oil and gas company StatoilHydro has reported that it tested dry gas in the Tinerkouk-2 well in the Hassi Mouina license area in Algeria.

The appraisal well was spudded in June 2008 and the hydrocarbons were encountered in formations of lower carboniferous age. StatoilHydro and its project partner, Algerian state-owned company Sonatrach, are reportedly satisfied with the results of the well.

The recently completed Tinerkouk-2 well is the sixth positive well in the license drilled by StatoilHydro. The Norwegian company is currently drilling the TGN-1 well, an exploration well also situated in the southern part of the Hassi Mouina license.

StatoilHydro has a 75% interest in Hassi Mouina, while its partner Sonatrach has a 25% interest.
