Statoil Petroleum has secured approval for use of the Ocean Vanguard mobile drilling facility for drilling top holes on Oseberg Sør (Stjerne) in the North Sea, in connection with the development of 30/9-22 Stjerne.

The plan for development and operation (PDO) of Stjerne was approved by the Storting in September last year, and Stjerne development has later been included in the Oseberg Sør field.

Stjerne, with water depth of 103m, is located in the North Sea, about 13km southwest of Oseberg Sør.

The consent applies to drilling of four top holes on the wells that include 30/9-M-11 H, 30/9-M-12 H, 30/9-M-13 H and 30/9-M-14 H, with the coordinates for the drilling operation being 60° 18′ 0.43" North and 02° 44′ 22.73" East.

Ocean Vanguard (photo) is operated by Diamond Offshore with an operations office in Stavanger, and with technical and operational support from the company’s office in Aberdeen.

The facility is registered on Marshall Island with Det norske Veritas as classification company.
