The Gullfaks subsea compressor (GSC) is designed to add 22 million barrels of oil equivalent and extend plateau production by around two years.
The company said that the wet gas compressor, a flexible measure to improve oil recovery (IOR) for the Gullfaks license, will be hooked up between the L and M subsea templates and platform.
Gullfaks subsea compressor project owner representative Steinar Konradsen said: "Subsea wet gas compression is a game-changer for subsea processing, and an important technology to increase recovery also on other fields."
Heavy-lift vessel Oleg Strashnov installed the protective structure and compressor station in early May. The compressor and cooling modules were installed from the Seven Viking vessel in June.
Gullfaks subsea compressor project manager Bjørn Birkeland said: "The installation campaigns have been successfully performed by Subsea Seven."
The project is in the final phase, and is currently undergoing testing with start-up planned in the last quarter this year.
The wet gas Gullfaks technology is said to eliminate the need of the well stream prior to compression.
