The contract extends for a period of four years and is supported with a provision for a further four-year extension.
M-I SWACO has used the technology on its own vessels and commercialized for the first time for Statoil.
The supply vessels feature the tanks below the deck which are filled with chemicals that need to be transported.
The tanks need to be cleaned following offshore deliveries in order to be used for other assignments.
M-I SWACO solution involves use of an automatic system for the cleaning process which eliminates the necessity for an individual’s entry into the tank.
It also facilitates recycling of wash water and soap, which ensures that only the actual waste is washed out of the tank that has to be delivered for further processing.
Statoil logistics and emergency preparedness vice-president Jone Stangeland said: "The solution increases the safety of our personnel as there is no need to enter the tanks and we reduce both time use and costs."
The tank cleaning module can be fitted onto a lorry, and can replace manual cleaning, thus helping to save both money and time for the process.
"By cleaning the water in the same operation, the volume of waste is reduced significantly," Stangeland added.
