Norwegian state-owned electricity company Statkraft has opened the Palsbu power plant, which lies directly at the base of Palsbu dam in Nore og Uvdal, and will generate energy to supply 1,000 households.

The facility will generate approximately 22GWh of new, clean energy annually, and represents an example of environmentally friendly modernization of old hydropower facilities.

Bard Mikkelsen, president and CEO of Statkraft, said: Palsbu power plant is a future-oriented project that exemplifies the new, environment-friendly way to utilize hydropower – it protects nature and is more efficient than before. This power plant clearly demonstrates that there is still much to be drawn from our clean and renewable hydropower sources.
