Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) noted that Geothermal International’s business is well established and currently has extensive operations throughout the UK and Ireland, and to a lesser extent in Europe.
Geothermal Industries has installed over 1,300 ground source heat pump systems, amounting to over 90MW of installed capacity, ranging from 6kW to 10MW.
It provides SSE with access to renewable heat technologies that compliment the renewable electricity technologies it has already invested in and reportedly strengthens its position as an integrated renewable energy solutions provider.
SSE said that it will benefit from having a commercial offering in the geothermal energy segment and a significant stake in a business which is reportedly dominant in a rapidly growing sector of the European heat market.
